School Leaders Growing AFSA in Big Numbers

The AFSA family is expanding!

"We believe it goes without saying that school leaders across the nation continue to see the need to come together and have a real voice at the table. And that interest is obviously growing," said AFSA President Dr. Leonard P. Pugliese. "It fills me with great joy to see our strength as a union continue to expand."

Since the July 2022 convention, the General Executive Board has granted charters to four groups:

  • The Rochester Administrators Association, representing the school administrators of Rochester, Minnesota, led by local President Peter Wruck. This will be AFSA’s first local in the state, paving the way for future organizing in Minnesota.
  • The Meriden Administrators’ Association, representing the school administrators of Meriden, Connecticut, led by local President Lysette Torres. This latest local in the state will also join the Connecticut Federation of School Administrators (CFSA).
  • The Maryland Federation of School Administrators, representing the school administrators of the entire state of Maryland, led by AFSA Affiliate Liaison Doris Reed. This state federation will work on addressing statewide labor issues in Maryland, and focus on internal and external organizing throughout the state.
  • The Midwest Federation of School Administrators, representing school administrators from Illinois, Michigan and Missouri, led by Chicago Principals and Administrators Association President Troy LaRaviere. This will be the first AFSA multistate regional federation. This federation will advocate for the existing AFSA locals in the three states, and focus on internal and external organizing. The federation also will address regional specific issues.
