What is a PAC, and why does it matter to us?
A Political Action Committee (PAC) is a fund that allows us to engage in the political process, advocate for policies that benefit public schools, and build the relationships needed to protect and advance the rights of school leaders. Policies can change, but laws create lasting protections—and having a well-funded PAC ensures we have a voice in shaping them.
The protections we fight for in our contract are only as strong as the laws that uphold them.
The great accomplishments we’ve made in recent years didn’t happen by chance—they happened because we fought for them.
- · We won bargaining rights, officially gaining recognition as a union.
- · For the first time ever, we’re negotiating a fair contract for principals and assistant principals.
- · We secured mandatory arbitration into law, with bipartisan support, ensuring school leaders have a real pathway to fairness in negotiations.
These victories weren’t easy. They were won through strategic advocacy—showing up in Springfield, building relationships in key committees, and making sure lawmakers understood our fight.
And here’s the reality: to protect the work we do in schools, we need protections EVERYwhere.
Other unions have well-funded PACs that give them the political strength to shape their future. We need to do the same.
CPAA needs this, and Chicago’s students need CPAA. We can't state it enough: The protections we fight for in our contract are only as strong as the laws that uphold them. A well-funded PAC ensures that even as leadership and even policies shift, our rights, our schools, and our students remain protected.
