Ensuring equitable and affordable health care for all Americans is one step closer and you can help make it happen. It’s time to take action to get the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 passed in the House of Representatives, which has scheduled a vote for Friday, Aug. 12, just two days from now.
Call your representative at (202) 224-3121 and tell them to vote yes for H.R. 5376.
Health security has been a key issue for AFSA over the past two decades, and one we reaffirmed last month at our Constitutional Convention, where delegates unanimously voted for Resolution 5—(The) Fight for Quality Health Care.
The legislation will:
- Extend health care subsidies in the Affordable Care Act for three more years through 2025, keeping premiums at $10 per month or lower for most people covered through the federal health insurance exchange.
- Allow the federal government to negotiate the prices of certain expensive drugs each year for Medicare.
- Cap out-of-pocket prescription drug costs for people on Medicare at $2,000 a year.
Moreover, the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 will make a historic down payment on deficit reduction to fight inflation, invest in domestic energy production and manufacturing, and reduce carbon emissions by roughly 40% by 2030.
The new proposal for the FY2022 budget reconciliation bill will invest approximately $300 billion in deficit reduction and $369 billion in energy security and climate change programs over the next 10 years.
We have the power to make a difference, but we must act now and make our opinions heard. If we use our collective voice as an AFSA family, we can drive change.
