Boston Mayor Marty Walsh Biden's Choice for U.S. Secretary of Labor

Statement of Ernest Logan, President of the American Federation of School Administrators

Mayor Marty Walsh understands the important role that unions play in America, and he knows firsthand that unions represent the voice of people who make this nation run.

He is a strong advocate of the collective bargaining process and recently proved that to school leaders in Boston when he stepped in and helped end a long-running contract dispute between the Boston School Board and Boston Association of School Administrators and Supervisors (BASAS), AFSA Local 6.

Once again, President-elect Joe Biden shows he is a person of his word. He told all of America during the campaign he would select a person to serve the working people of this country who represents their values and beliefs. His selection of Mayor Marty Walsh, a former union local president, accomplishes that mission.

Walsh is an outstanding selection to serve as secretary of labor and will help level the playing field between employers and workers. We look forward to working with him over the next four years.
